Donald H. DeForge, VMD
Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. DeForge developed a special interest in oral care. In 1996, he was honored as North East Practitioner of the Year by the American Animal Hospital Association. That same year he received the Peter Emily Residents Award in Small Animal Dentistry.
Dr. DeForge lectures on small animal dentistry and oral surgery emphasizing practical applications for the general practitioner. His past columns in companion animal dentistry have appeared in DVM Newsmagazine and Veterinary Practice News for over a decade. Dr. DeForge is co-editor of An Atlas of Veterinary Dental Radiology along with Ben H Colmery III, DVM, DAVDC.
Dr. DeForge has guest lectured in Veterinary Technology Programs at Suffolk Community College and Mercy College in New York. He was an Adjunct at Northwestern Community College’s Veterinary Technology Program where he established the Department of Oral Radiology and Periodontology for veterinary technology students in conjunction with Dr. Nancy Marchetti-Program Director.

Dr. DeForge performs Continuing Education for veterinarians and veterinary technicians on the local, regional, and national level and is well respected by the academic community. All of his lectures are RACE approved for CE.
In 2017 Dr. DeForge he became the oral radiology consultant for E-Vet Diagnostics-A telemedicine reading service for veterinarians.
He also is a lecturer for Tuft’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine on-line and on-site.

Jennifer joined the SSVC family in 2008 and quickly became our Hospital Manager as well as our Head Technician. She is currently enrolled at Cedar Valley Community College which is part of the American Animal Hospital Association program to become a certified technician. She posses a strong passion in Urgent Care, Surgery, and Dentistry, she also wishes to specialize in these fields. She shows great compassion with all of the pets that visit our hospital and treats each of them as if they were her own. Jennifer enjoys making a positive difference in the lives of not only the animals but their owners. During her free time, her hobbies include skiing, scuba diving, and spending with her husband, young daughter, 11 yr old Pug named Toboe, and their newest adoption a 9 year told Boston Terrier named Lenny.
Alyssa has been with the SSVC network since June 2017 as a veterinary technician. She is a recent graduate from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s of Science in both Animal Science and Pathobiology and Veterinary Science. Alyssa is currently in the process of applying to veterinary school in the hopes of one day achieving a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. When Alyssa is not working, she enjoys going to the beach, running, skiing, reading, and hanging out with her family. She has an 11 year old Bishon Frise/Poodle mix named Bella.
Crystal grew up with a love for animals. She attended Johnson & Wales for Baking and Pastry Arts and worked as a Baker/Cook for 5 years. Crystal decided to go back to school to become a part of the Veterinary field, which came as no surprise to family and friends since her passion has always been caring for animals! Crystal lives in Naugatuck with her Husband, 2 cats Parker and Milo, and dog Gwen. In her free time she enjoys listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
Hayley is currently an undergraduate student at the University of New Hampshire. She is studying Animal Science with an intent to apply to veterinary school. Hayley has been working at SSV/MVH for 4 years and it has been an amazing opportunity for her. She’s dreamt about working in this field for as long as she could remember and now she’s closer than she’s ever imagined. Hayley has a dog named Minka as well as two cats named Meme and Ozzie. When Hayley is not at school or working, she enjoys going on walks with her dog and going to the gym.
Emily is currently a High School Senior at Jonathan Law High School and has been with the SSVC family since 2017. Emily is currently applying to a 4 year university in the hopes of being on either the pre-veterinary or pre-medical track. Emily loves being at work and being part of a great staff. When Emily is not working or going to school, you can find her playing lacrosse for Jonathan Law! She also has a 7-year-old cat at home named Charlie.
Colleen is a senior at Jonathan Law High School and has just joined the SSVC family this past November. She has recently been accepted to Tulane University and plans to major in psychology with a focus on animal-assisted therapy, as well as minor in music performance. Colleen lives in Milford with her mom, brother, a German Shepherd-Keeshond mix, and a calico cat. When she is not working, she enjoys running, painting, and playing viola with the New Haven Civic Orchestra.
Romeo has been the SSVC Mascot for the past 3 years now and is enjoying his best life while awaiting for the purrfect home. Romeo can be found roaming around the reception area on the prowl for his hidden treats or curled up in his bed taking a snooze. Clients know him best as being carefree, loving, handsome, and quite the food connoisseur. However, the wonderful staff at SSVC knows to keep a closeful eye on him since he can be a little too curious and mischievous for his own good. When Romeo decides to take a break from his nap, he can be found playing in the laundry basket, chasing his tail, or excessively grooming his luxurious orange coat.

Perras is a junior at Trumbull High School. She is attending the agriscience and biotechnology program, and majors in veterinary science. She recently became part of the SSVC family by taking place in our summer externship program. She is very passionate about animals and hopes to become a veterinarian in the future. She lives in Milford with her family and four pets. Outside work and school, Perras enjoys drawing, painting, or really any type of arts and crafts project she can do.
Bridget is currently a high school junior at Emmett O’Brien Technical school and has recently joined the SSVC this summer. She is enrolled in the health technology shop at her school and is on her way to receive her CNA certificate. Bridget runs track and plays soccer on her school teams. She has always had a love and fascination for all animals. She hopes to one day have a lifelong career caring for animals. In Bridget’s free time she enjoys spending time with her Guinea pig, dog, and a bearded dragon.
Cassie is the newest member on the SSVC team, joined September 2019. She is an early high school graduate and is starting Cedar Valley College to get her associates degree in Veterinary Technology. She has been in love with animals since before she could remember and is thrilled to begin learning how to help them. Cassie lives in Trumbull with her family and her precious pup- Daisy. On her free time, she likes to go snowboarding, play volleyball and spend time with Daisy.
